This is my third post discussing those discussing Todd Bentley and the Florida Outpouring. If you have yet to read the earlier posts you can do so here, and here. Two weeks ago I ventured down to Lakeland for a few days with some folks from our church. This past Sunday I decided to devote my message to what is unfolding there. Those of you who are used to a 25 minute sermonette each week will need to take this in two parts because it’s 58 minutes long. It’s probably easier to grab it off itunes and plop in on your ipod, or you can get it off the podcast link below which is on our church website. Feedback is welcome though I prefer you read the earlier posts first before commenting as I’m not interested in giving scoffers a greater platform.
Is this that? Relections on the Florida Outpouring – Matthew 11:1-19

I will pray for you Steve. I pray that God will move in mighty ways in your life that you can not even comprehend. The violence of Todd Bently will not compare to the judgment of Jesus Christ for he is soon returning, and with him comes the most terrifying judgment the world has ever seen… and it will fall on American and knock her on her face.

Pastor Mike – glad you loved the message! My wife just forwarded to me part of an email from someone in our church that said “Tell Steve GREAT sermon this morning! My husband said Steve either lost people or gained people today. I say Steve either loses or gains people EVERY Sunday because he chooses to tell the TRUTH, HOORAY for truth!”
Pastor Mike – I plan to “stay strong” and you do the same! Thanks for commenting.
Evangeline – thanks for praying that God would move mightily in my life!! I pray the same for you!

I have been seeing people refer to Todd as having a new age doctrine mixed into his teaching. what do you have to sayabout that? Also do you know which one of the doctrines they are/might be refering to/

I’m guessing they are labeling mystic experiences as “New Age.” I will blog on this topic soon and not write much here except to say that there is Christian mysticism and non-Christian mysticism and that many of these people labeling Bentley as New Age don’t realize mysticism is not the same as sorcery and witchcraft. There is such a thing as Christian mysticism going far back into church history and especially in the Bible. Paul had third heaven experiences and is therefore a mystic also.

Other New Testament Mystics…
Peter was in a trance and had a vision in Acts 10 and told others about it in Acts 11…
Paul talks about a trance he had in Acts 22…
Both of those passages use the Greek word ekstasis which means ecstasy…
John was caught up in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day and had a huge divine encounter with the angelic and Jesus Himself…
